Competition Rules
‘Time Standard’ Awards
Awarded to individual riders who attain the required ‘Time Standard’ as indicated on the ‘Jowett’ chart.
The award will be made for the fastest performance in the designated standard. In the case of veteran time standards, an award will be made if the qualifying time exceeds the published standard by a minimum of 1 second more than in the previous 3 seasons.

1. L, N & K James Junior BAR Cup.
Highest av. of average speeds over (2x10) & (2x25) mile ‘Open’ time trials.
2. WJ Parkhouse Memorial Trophy.
Handicap champion in nominated 10-mile time trial. May be open or club event. Entry forms required by club appointed handicapper 2 weeks prior to event date. Closing date to be published on club and championship listing.
3. WJ Jones Veterans BAR Shield.
Awarded to highest aggregate ‘Plus’ over 10, 25, 50 & 100 mile ‘Open’ time trials (On standard).
4. WJ Jones Long Distance BAR Shield.
Highest av. of average speeds over 50 & 100 miles and 12 hour ‘Open’ time trials.
5. WD Lloyd Cup.
12 hr champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
6. NM James Cup.
Club hill climb champion - Nominated Hill
7. JF Jones Cup.
100 mile champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
8. WD Lloyd Cup.
Junior 25 mile champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
9. Claud Butler Cup.
Club person of the year. Nominations to be submitted to the President (or deputy) 2 weeks prior to the published date of the AGM to allow the organizer to prepare a shortlist of nominees with notes. Votes to be cast at the end of the AGM and the winner to be announced at the annual presentation evening.
10. BAR “Runner-up” Cup
Second highest av. of the average speeds over 10, 25, 50 & 100 mile ‘Open’ time trials.
11. Mayor T.O. Rees Captain’s Shield
Awarded by the Club Captain to the individual who has made the greatest contribution to club run type events in the spirit in which they are run.
12. CA Hopkin Challenge Shield.
50 mile champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
13. WJ Jones Shield – 30 Mile Champion.
30 mile champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
14. WJ Jones Shield – Handicap BAR.
Club Handicap BAR – 10, 25, 50 & 100 mile ‘Open’ time trials. Entry forms required by 31st January indicating LTS performance. If no entries are received the shield is to be awarded for fastest scratch performance.
15. Len Evans Shield.
25 mile champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
16. Cowley Shield.
Photographic competition. Entries to be submitted at the club AGM and votes to be cast. Votes to be cast at the end of the AGM and the winner to be announced at the annual presentation evening.
17. “Founder Members” Shield.
Road racing Champion – Awarded by the management committee to the individual who has achieved the greatest overall performance in road racing.
18. Ray Powell Trophy.
10 mile champion in nominated ‘Open’ event.
19. WJ Jones Shield – Ladies BAR.
Highest av. of average speeds over 10, 25 & 50 mile ‘Open’ time trials.
20. Arthur Hopkin Memorial Cup.
2up ‘10’ – 1 rider a veteran. Teams to be decided by the drawing of names from a hat.
21. Martyn Ashfield Cup.
Awarded to rider who has amassed the highest aggregate total of points in road races.
22. WJ Jones “Longmarker” Cup.
Awarded to the most improved rider comparing current results with previous season.
23. Richard Wilkes Memorial Trophy.
Fastest average of three 25 mile ‘Open’ time trials on special handicap – see table.
24. A, M & A Marks Trophy.
Highest av. of average speeds over three ‘Mid-week’ 10 mile ‘Club’ time trials.
25. Cyclo Cross Cup.
Currently missing.
26. Dobbs Bowl.
Currently Missing.
27. MTJ Mogg Road Race Trophy.
Awarded to first OVW rider home in the OVW run road race.
28. BAR Shield.
Highest av. of the average speeds over 10, 25, 50 & 100 mile ‘Open’ time trials.
29. The Ogmore Hammer. (requires refurb)
For the biggest ‘Hammering’ of the season. Awarded by the club President or his appointed deputy.
30. Walter Lloyd Cup – Juvenile ‘10’
Highest av. of the average speeds over three 10 mile ‘Open’ time trials.
31. Pritchard Trophy (Cup)
Awarded to the most promising first year rider under 18 years. ‘Junior’ definition applies.
32. CS Roach Memorial Trophy (Cup).
Awarded to the fastest time of the year in any ‘Open’ 10 mile time trial.
33. The Golden Carrot.
Gluttony. Awarded by the club President or his appointed deputy.
34. Lee & Keith Ewing Trophy (Cup).
Awarded to the most reliable rider (Reliability rides).
35. End to End Mug.
Awarded for 1 year to any rider completing E – E.
36. The Ogmore Spoon. (requires refurb)
Stirrer. Awarded by the club President or his appointed deputy.
37. Midweek Points Trophy (Tankard).
Awarded for highest aggregate points score in ‘Mid-week’ 10 mile ‘Club’ time trials. Points will be awarded 10 for a win, 9 for second etc. Best 5 from 8 scores will count for aggregate. Number of counting scores may be adjusted in line with number of counting events. Eg if there are only 5 counting events then only best 3 scores will count.
General notes
Age Categories.
The following rules will apply to age categories (as per CTT regulation 9)
Juvenile - until his/her sixteenth birthday. (N.B. a Juvenile may compete as a Junior).
Junior - from his/her sixteenth birthday and until 31st December of the year in which his 18th birthday occurs.
Veteran - forty years of age and over on the day of the event.
Submission of Results.
It is the responsibility of the individual rider to submit his/her results to the Time Trial / Road Race Secretary. The closing date for submission of results will be 30th September.
Veterans Time Standards.
Unless otherwise stated – Time standards will be based on ‘Veterans Time Trial Association’ (VTTA) standards and using the OVW Club Veteran Standards table as amended 2013.
Temporary Adjustments or Disputes.
Non permanent adjustments to the competition rules (e.g. adjustments to number of counting events in award 37) will be decided by a sub committee consisting of President, Chairman and Competition Secretary. The sub committee may call upon other club members for advice or guidance when necessary.
Disputes regarding awards will be settled by the aforementioned sub committee.
Where a conflict of interest is in existence on this sub committee, the sub committee will nominate a neutral individual or individuals to adjudicate in their place until a decision is made.
In all instances, the sub committee’ decision will be final.
Permanent Alterations.
Any member of the OVW may make requests for permanent alterations to the competition rules by applying to the management committee. Requests are to be in writing to the Secretary for inclusion in the next management committee meeting agenda. When making an application, state the current rule, the proposal and the reason for the request. The management committee will decide if the alteration is appropriate and will ratify the change with a date from which the change is to apply.
